The Jazz Age: Cultural Relevancy Activity Assignment
The 1920s transformed the United States. Not only was this an era of newfound prosperity, but it was an era that changed how culture was viewed in the U.S. It truly was the decade that began the "American Century". Jazz became popular, Harlem became the focal point of an African-American Renaissance, Women's rights and roles were transformed with the right to vote and the newfound social acceptance in breaking long-standing social codes, and many people throughout the country found solace in breaking the law as millions of Americans thwarted prohibition.
Goals:
1) Explain an aspect of American Culture from the decade of the 1920s.
2) To analyze this aspect of American Culture and compare/contrast it to an event or aspect of American culture during the last decade (or so).
