Module 8 Discussion Forum: Caring for An Aging Parent or Caregiver
Prompt
Under the section “Family Issues and Consideration” in the textbook, it was discussed briefly how the adult child(ren) is expected to care for their aging parent. In this written discussion, you will interview someone you know or seek out someone who primarily or shares responsibilities in caring for an aging parent. Inquire from them:
-
What are the upsides and downsides of taking care of them?
-
Any setbacks that were caused in their lives, such as careers, outside relationships, leisure time, etc…?
-
How do they take care of themselves? Who is their support system?
-
What advice they would like to share with others to ensure a balance between having a personal life and caring for their aging parent(s)?
- Be familiar with changes in relationship roles during middle adulthood (C.O. #3).
In a post below, respond to the following prompt. Then, you must respond to (2) of your classmates' posts. After you post a response, you will be able to see other responses. You are not required to post more than once, but feel free to respond to other posts and engage with your classmates.
Your first post is due on Wednesday by 11:59 pm CST. Your response to other students is due on Sunday by 11:59 pm CST. Both responses (initial and peer) should be at least 150 words long. This includes responses to other students' posts. A simple “I agree” “Yes” or “LOL” will not count. Please think about the questions and your peers' responses and reply thoughtfully and courteously, according to netiquette rules. Use good English grammar, correct punctuation, and complete sentences. While the posts will mostly be judged by their thoughtfulness and completeness, I reserve the right to take off points for grammatical errors, especially if they interfere with the clarity of the post.
