Case Study
Remi had been looking forward to cooking crawfish and visiting with friends and family at a boil cook-off in Lafayette’s Girard Park. The occasion was a lot of fun but, while talking with some friends, he got distracted at the critical moment when he pulled the basket with the crawfish from the cooking pot. As a result, a lot of hot water spilled onto his right ankle and foot. The area looked reddish and was briefly painful but Remi did not want to spoil the day and go seek medical attention. He just plunged his lower leg and foot into a cooler with ice and felt better. However, the next day, Remi woke up from throbbing pain and noticed the area contacted by the hot water was now swollen and blisters had appeared that were wet. He also noticed that he had a slight fever.
