Case Study
A six-month-old baby admitted into emergency service for a broken arm bone. In her history she has had a previous fracture in her finger bones. Admiitting nurse suspected from a child abuse case but the family insisted she was ok last night and sleeping peacefully in her crib but woke up crying and they notice the deformity in her arm rightaway. Her father also has multiple fractures in his history.
On examination, it is found that she has blue sclera and a high arched palate and hyperlaxity in her skin. Diagnosis made clinically and supported confirmation by collagen analysis of skin fibroblast culture. She is diagnosed with osteogenesis imperfecta (OI), another word for brittle bone disease made.
