After observing, reflecting and questioning, pick one primary source to respond to from Chapter 11 in the textbook Western Civilization II. Then, organize your written analysis using a paragraph for each of these points:
Historical Context: Based on your reading, what is going on in the time period when this piece was written? What might this tell us about what life was like for the people doing the writing? What were the circumstances that they were viewing in order to write these comments? Please use very specific examples from your book to cite your evidence. What were the general problems in society that they were responding to?
Authorial Context: Now that you have provided background on the time period, look more closely at the writers. Who wrote the source? Do you have an exact year when they were writing? What motivated each writer? Do you think that their points are equally persuasive? Remember to use only the book and your notes. Any information from other sources will be discounted.
Personal Experience: Finally, how do you connect these quotes to your personal experience. Reading it in the 21st century, how does this relate to the current controversy that we see in this region? Can you share a personal experience that is relevant to this controversy or another similar disagreement?
